On May 18th 1917 the SS Camberwell was steaming down the English Channel from London en-route to India.
When, six miles S.E. of Dunnose Head tragedy struck as she struck a submerged mine. The captain managed to get all but seven of his crew to safety. The vessel was a total loss.
