French Watermill, Sandford

French Mill at Sandford, stands on a tributary of the eastern River Yar by the side of the Godshill/Shanklin road. A mill was recorded at Sandford in 1086, this could possible be French Mill.[1]
The mill was put on sale in 1853:
"French Mill, in the Parish of Godshill, a neat small Corn Mill, with Substantial Dwelling-house, Garden, and 7 Acres of Land - Mr. Mark Morgan, Newport."[2]
Mr. Harry Guy was at the mill in the late 1800's before moving to Alverstone Mill.[3]
The stone build mill and granary have been converted into a private residence.
