The William White's 1859 Isle of Wight directory has 'Richard Hobbs, brick and tile maker, and lime burner, Long lane, Arreton'.
The 1898 and 1911 Kelly's street directories have Richard's son 'James Hobbs , brick maker, Long lane, Staplers, North Arreton' - James died in 1916, aged 73.
The 1927 and 1935 Kelly's street directories have James' son 'James William Hobbs , brick maker, Long lane, Staplers, North Arreton'.
