In April 1968, on the instructions of the liquidator of the Isle of Wight Theatres, Ltd., the freehold of the Regent Cinema was going to be put to auction but was sold by private treaty prior to the auction[2].

In February 1969, demolition commenced "six years after the last film show"[3], and a Richways Supermarket was built on the site.

Today (2019) is the site of the Sainsbury's Local.
