Shanklin Methodist Chapel (Victoria Avenue)
From Wightpedia
Originally a Bible Christian Chapel, it was opened at the end of April 1885 (when 'Victoria Avenue' was known as 'Sibden Road') replacing an earlier Bible Christian Zion Chapel[1]. A report recording the opening of the building refers to it as the 'Bailey Memorial Chapel', had been erected by Mr. James Ball of Cowes to the design of Mr. James Newman of Sandown - the contract cost being £1,595, with another £49 for extras. Seating was provided for 400 people, 320 on the floor, the remainder in the galleries.[2]
The chapel closed in the 1940's and today (2023) the building is used by the Shanklin Voluntary Youth and Community Centre.
