St John's Church, Sandown

St John the Evangelist Church, on the corner of Carter Street and St John's Crescent, Sandown dates from 1878. A foundation stone, on the Carter Street side of the church, was laid by Lady Oglander on September 1878; the church opened in June 1881.
The church was built of stone from the St Boniface stone quarries at Ventnor in the Early English style; the architect was Mr. B. C. L. Luck, Regent Street, London and the building cost about £7000,[1] the builder was Mr. Isaac Barton, of Ryde.[2]
