The Bible Christians had the Ebenezer Chapel at Whitwell from 1840.[1]

The existing Chapel was built in 1884/85 in the Early English style; Mr James Newman, of Sandown, was the architect and Messrs Russell and Taylor, of Ventnor, the builders.[2] During the building of the new chapel the congregation had held services in the Whitwell Farm Barn.

In 1929 a Sunday School was built behind the chapel; the image of the opening of the School, 9 May 1929, identifies the chapel as United Methodist.
