Blakes Bus Service

In 1928, Henry Blake took over the bus service previously run by Mr. Cyril Cooke between Newport and Sandown via Downend and Newchurch.
Henry Blake retired in 1948 but the company continued with his son and grandson in charge until it was absorbed into the Enterprise bus company.
The service had the character of the old rural 'carriers', making purchases for country people and delivering them to their door.
