Brading Telephone System
From Wightpedia
The National Telephone Co. Ltd leased Culver Cottage in New Road from William Jacobs (1907) - in 1911 the exchange was still at Culver Cottage, the census showed Mary Ann Friend, widow, as Exchange Caretaker.
A purpose built building for an automatic exchange was later built on West Street - shown on a 1939 map.
In May1985 the West Street automatic exchange was decommission and the service switched to the Sandown Exchange.[1]
