Holy Trinity Church, Cowes
Holy Trinity Church, Queen's Road, Cowes was consecrated in 1832. It had been built at the expense of Mrs. Sarah Goodwin to the design of a Mr. Bramble, an architect[1].
The church overlooks the Solent and stands near Cowes Castle, the home of the Royal Yacht Squadron. The church was described by the Bishop of Winchester in 1832 as "a place of Worship on Cowes foreshore for the sailor and seafarers", and so it is today.
It is interesting to observe that the clock has just two faces; these are positioned on the north and west sides of the tower - directions which mean they are visible to those on the sea.
On the north side of the church, overlooking the sea, is a terrace and garden created in memory of those who perished in the 1979 Fastnet race tragedy; the garden includes a memorial made from stones from the Fastnet Rock.
