Cowes in the Isle of Wight, is at the western mouth of the River Medina. It is one of the points of entry into the Island from the mainland.
Previously called West Cowes, the name was changed to just 'Cowes' by order of the County Council in 1895[1] - although the use of the former name continued to be often used.
