From Wightpedia
East Cowes in the Isle of Wight was made a civil parish in 1894, under the 'Local Government Act, 1894' (it had been an ecclesiastical parish since 1843) out of the civil parish of Whippingham. From 1859 the town had been governed by a Local Board of Health until the 1894 Act established an Urban District Council.[1]
By the Local Government Act of 1933, the East Cowes Urban District Council was absorbed into the Cowes Urban District Council.
